USA Trip – Day 4: Chicago – Baseball, Shopping and Deep Dish Pizza

Today, the boys headed off to iconic Wrigley Field to watch the Chicago Cubs take on the San Diego Padres. They started with lunch at Swift Tavern, just outside the stadium, before picking up a Cubs cap for TJ and making their way to their seats near first base.

The sun was shining, but sadly not on their section—so despite the bright day, it was bitterly cold in the shade. The Cubs came out strong, jumping to a 5–3 lead after the first inning, but things didn’t quite go their way. The game was all tied up at the top of the 8th and in the 9th, Fernando Tatis Jr scored the winning run on an error, clinching the win for the Padres.

Meanwhile, us girls had our own kind of perfect day—a shopping adventure through downtown Chicago. Sophia planned our route, and we set out from the apartment on foot, first stopping at Target for water bottles, then hitting TK Maxx, Macy’s, and Nordstrom before breaking for lunch at Shake Shack.

Fuelled up, we made our way up the famous Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue) to Aritzia and then Sephora. By that point, Greer was fading, so we popped into Starbucks for a pick-me-up. Unfortunately, the Frappuccino selection wasn’t quite what she’s used to at home, so she passed. Sophia, on the other hand, happily sipped on an iced chai latte.

From there, we headed down a side street eventually making it to the On Running flagship store, where I found a great pair of trainers. Around then, the boys caught up with us, meeting us at Abercrombie & Fitch just before closing. We circled back to On so Mark could check it out too, then squeezed in a few more stores before dinner.

Dinner was a classic Chicago experience: deep dish pizza at Lou Malnati’s. I’ll admit, I’m still partial to a traditional Neapolitan pizza, but when in Chicago, deep dish is a must-try.

We wrapped up the day by catching the El train back home, tired but happy after a full day of fun.
