Sophia & Greer have both had a successful rowing season and are both competing at the New Zealand National Secondary Schools Tournament aka Maadi Cup.
This year it is at Lake Karapiro just outside Cambridge so the girls flew up on Saturday morning and had a training session on Saturday and Sunday. The novice girls (which includes Greer) all took part in the annual parade.
Each school also decorates a shop window in town and ours looked great!

The girls (and parents) were also lucky enough to have Rod Waddell come and speak to them on Sunday night.

Racing started on Monday and Greer was first up with the novice coxed 8. After a wobbly start (there is no dongle to hold onto at the start line here like at Lake Ruataniwha and a gust of wind caught them and put them off track slightly) and last out of the blocks they used all their power and skill and finished an impressive second In 7:13:81 which means they will need to repechage on Wednesday, not necessarily a bad thing.

Greer’s second race was shortly thereafter and was the u15 coxed 4 and again not a great start but they came in second in 8:11:67 putting them straight through to finals on Friday.

Sophia only had the one race today, the u16 coxed 8 and they smashed it winning their heat and straight through to finals in an impressive 6:58:53. The next fastest time in the other heat was 7:06. That final is also on Friday.

And a wee drink at the end of the day for Mum! (and Dad but no evidence of him!)
