Day 13 – Martano & Villa Day

We decided it was time for another day at home to relax and spend some time in the sun.

Mark, Greer & I decided to head into town for a quick coffee and look around before our swim. We found a nice cafe, Cafe Marconi and ordered our coffees before taking a seat outside. I noticed that there was also a group of old men catching up over coffee (as was also the case at the other cafes we had been past). It occurred to me that at home this would typically be a group of women meeting up. I wonder where all the women are in Italy?

We wandered around the town and the narrow alleyways, with a spot of shopping thrown in, picking up some bread and a croissant for Greer, took some photos and came across the church, Chiesa Matrice, so had a look inside.

We headed home and whilst I was getting sorted, the kids came in to say there was someone at the door. It was Luigi, Salvatore’s papa who had come to give us some pomodoro he had picked from the garden for our insalata. We had an interesting conversation with my very minimal Italian and his non-existent English but we worked it out.

We spent the rest of the day swimming, sitting in the sun and doing some chores.

In the evening we went into town for dinner at Quinto Quarto, a meat restaurant. The smallest piece of steak we could get was 1kg! But luckily we could share it between three of us (Mark, Greer & me). TJ had a huge double cheeseburger and Sophia, a standard cheeseburger (still huge!). Sophia & I had wanted to share a tiramisu for dessert but they had run out (even though there were only about 4 others in the restaurant all night) and Greer & TJ had chocolate ice-cream. The service was very ordinary given there was hardly anyone else there. If you love meat, it is the place for you to go, otherwise I would say go somewhere else.
