This was our first trip back to Cayman since we left on 2011 and so the first time for the kids to visit their birthplace.
So I asked them about their thoughts on it, what they liked, what they didn’t like, how it compared to what they expected. I started asking them individually but have decided to combine the results as they were generally the same except Greer who just said “she likes everything”.
This is what they said, in no particular order …
It is bigger than they thought- the island itself is bigger and there are more people
TJ said stingrays should be extinct
It is very bushy – much more mangrove than they thought
Too many people on the beach at one time – it was high tourist season when we went but I actually didn’t think the beaches were too bad
Lots of fun – love the beaches, seeing iguana’s and snorkelling, but they did agree that there is not a lot to do there other than go to the beach.
Everyone calls it “cay-man” rather than “cay-min”
The sea was warmer than they expected and there were more palm trees than they expected.
Huge iguanas compared to what thought but not as many as expected
Loved the vibe and people (clearly they haven’t worked here or they might change their mind on that point – They meant people we came in contact with – friends, waiters etc)
They want to come every year – and they (actually think it was Sophia) said Mark needs to keep doing his job well so we can!
It was fun meeting our friends and their kids.
Love the weather – being able to swim all the time – I totally agree on that one (something I really miss about the place)
They were surprised the locals think it is cold the moment.
Clean air
Two of them said they would like to live here permanently and go to boarding school in the UK!!!
