It was a very early start this morning with the alarm going off at 3am, time to shower, wash towels and undertake the fine art of balancing out the bags to 50lb each. We locked everything up and headed to the airport to drop the rental but there was no one there (not surprising) and no drop box or sign as to how to deal with the car. In the end we dropped the keys in the drop box for Budget next door and decided we’d just call them about it when they opened.
We checked in and the agent laughed telling us that we were actually allowed 55lb on Cayman Air (you are also allowed 40lb carry on luggage) – she said it looked like we had been trying hard to even them out. Security was quick and after a bite to eat for the kids and a small wait we boarded our flight.
It was smooth sailing to Miami and we were through immigration and customs within 20 minutes. There is now a train to the Rental Car Centre where we had a bit of a hold up as the car they had set aside for us had captain seats in the back (ie the configuration was 2, 2, 3 rather than the usual 2, 3, 2). They weren’t sure when another car would come in so we decided to try and get our luggage in and see how it went. As we were doing this they came to say they had found a vehicle for us and even though we thought we could probably manage, we decided to go with the new vehicle – I could foresee lots of fighting over who was in the third row every day otherwise ?.
We got stuck at the exit from the Rental Car Centre for a while as the car in front clearly had some issue. Eventually we got out and headed up to Aventura Shopping Mall, one of our old haunts. Once there, we wandered and did a little shopping. We had some lunch at Shake Shack (a burger joint) and Greer and I got our nails done. A little more shopping and we headed back to Miami Beach so we could check in to our apartment hotel, another Sonder. We have been really impressed with the Sonder’s we have stayed in so far.
There is a Trader Joe’s supermarket below the hotel so we went and got a few supplies and some bread, cold meats and cheese for dinner. Back upstairs and we watched some TV with our dinner before an early night
