Day 11 – Air & Space Museum, Georgetown and Christmas

This morning saw us arriving at the Air & Space Museum to a huge line even though we had timed entry tickets. But as soon as 10am hit and the Museum opened, the queue moved very quickly. The Museum is still in the process of being renovated and is only partly open (the remainder of it is still out in Virginia to view). They have been renovating it since 2018 and it is not expected to be finished until 2025. Mark & I were last here in 2003 and it has changed a lot. They have done a fabulous job with the renovations, making the exhibits much more user friendly and interactive.

We spent time looking through the various exhibits, including the first flight, where Mark took great pleasure in telling a guide they had it wrong and that Richard Pearse was actually the first man to fly but the guide did not believe him despite Mark having it up on his phone. The girls and I had swiftly walked away by this stage. We also looked at the space race and the first man on the moon, the speed nation, and America by air.

We headed to Georgetown for a spot of shopping next. Greer got an absolute bargain on a Canada Goose Jacket so she was nice and toasty the rest of the day. The Georgetown area has some beautiful buildings and some great shopping, although I am still trying to hold out until we get to Orlando to get going too much on that.

Home for a small rest before heading to Enchant Christmas, a Christmas Village with lots of Christmas lights, an immersive walk through maze, dining, holiday shopping, and ice-skating (although we didn’t skate today). We wandered the maze, had some mulled wine, cheeseburgers, funnel cakes and crepes. Once we were thoroughly frozen we decided to head home via the National Christmas Tree which is surrounded by smaller trees for each State behind the White House.
