Day 3 – Dallas – Shops, Vaccines and NBA

It was a slower start this morning, time for a bit of washing, work and chess. We then headed to Target to look for Xmas PJ’s, an adapter plug and general look around, but first a quick stop at Starbucks for coffees and frappuccinos.

We had a quick bite to eat at the Starbucks attached to the Target and then decided to get our Covid booster shots. We waited until getting here so we could get the latest one which is unavailable in NZ. The CVS next to Target couldn’t do them for non-US citizens but Walgreens did so we booked online and headed straight there.

Once there we realised they only had the Moderna one and they directed us to another Walgreens for the Pfizer one. There was a small wait while they sorted the paperwork but it was fairly quick and definitely painless. There was no waiting after and so we headed to the local sporting store for a quick look and then the Target across the road but still no Christmas PJ’s small enough for us. We headed home via the local REI (an outdoor store) to pick up our extra bags for shopping.

We had a quick rest before heading out to the American Airlines Centre to watch the Dallas Mavericks play the Oklahoma Thunder (NBA). We were lucky enough to see Luka Doncic, one of the current greats of the game. You have to love the way Americans totally get into everything – the entertainment they provide at these events is so good, I particularly loved the karaoke break. Even Greer, who was adamant she didn’t want to go, enjoyed it. We had great seats and could see everything easily – not sure I’d want to be in the nose bleeds at the very back. Mark had a rather large person next to him so was a bit squashed but the worst bit was the body odour. ?.

We tucked into bottomless popcorn and sodas. It was the first NBA game I’ve been to and I would definitely like to see more.

It was a fairly swift exit after the game – we had driven but the drive away from the stadium was well managed.
