Yesterday afternoon we were discussing the announcement by Air New Zealand to cancel some flights to deal with staff illnesses and then a few hours a later we check our Air NZ app and it shows our flight from Auckland to Houston as having been cancelled. They rebooked us on a flight the day before (although failed to rebook our Christchurch to Auckland flight so not sure how they thought that would work as we still were not scheduled to leave Christchurch until the 16th December but we left Auckland on the 15th December).
So having thought about it overnight we decided to add a few extra days to our holiday so went down to Flight Centre to sort it all out. Ideally we wanted to go the previous Thursday (they have cancelled all Friday flights) 8th December but that flight was fully booked. We did however manage to get a flight on Saturday 10th December. We have decided to drive that day to Dallas and spend a few days there before heading to Austin, via Waco (where the home improvement show, Fixer Upper, is filmed) for a night and then back to Houston to catch the original flight we had booked to Washington DC.
That gives us a bit more planning to sort … might check out a rodeo in Dallas if we can.
